Co-op: Supporting Local Communities

As part of their drive to encourage new membership, the Co-operative Store in Fenton invited us along to hand out our leaflets to their customers. Being one of the three chosen charities who will benefit from the Co-op's local community donation scheme, Ann and Trena were delighted to be given the opportunity to chat to their customers about the work of Manna House. The Store Manager, Helen, volunteers at the Fenton Methodist Church night shelter on Sunday evenings and has a heart for the homeless and vulnerable.

Thanks to the folks of Fenton for your support and thank you to all the Co-op staff for making us so welcome.

Queen's Award Day

In November 2016, Manna House hosted the official event for the presentation of our MBE Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services. This Award came as a complete surprise to us, but a very happy one! It has been 11 years since we first started to help the homeless and vulnerable on the streets on Hanley and we are still as busy if not busier than ever.
The day was a very special one, which was enjoyed by current and past volunteers, and faithful supporters,  and of course the very important dignitaries acting as representatives of Her Majesty. The Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire, Ian Dudson presented the Award and with the help of RAF Cadet Amy Watson all the volunteers were presented with their QAVS badge. We were privileged to have The High Sheriff of Staffordshire, Colonel David Leigh, read from Matthew 25 and we were delighted with the Vote of Thanks given by Councillor Anthony Munday, The Lord Mayor of the City of Stoke-on-Trent. Mr Lou Macari, ex-Stoke City Football Club Manager, amused everyone with an account of his first visit to Manna House, and we were pleased to have The Heart of England Baptist Association Regional Minister, Rev. David Ellis give thanks and pray for continued blessings for our work.
The ceremony was held in the Church and afterwards we enjoyed an informal buffet provided by our Church members catering team. Special thanks to Hanley Baptist Church and everyone who helped to make the day so very memorable.
